With an increase in production and a strong world demand, EU olive oil exports are to reach record levels in 2018/19. Cereal production in the EU is expected to recover over the same period. These are among the main findings of the latest short-term outlook report for EU agricultural markets, published on 17 April 2019 by the European Commission.
In 2017, the European Union (EU) produced around 4.0 million tonnes of chocolate, worth €18.3 billion.
Following controversies surrounding the authorisation and renewal of certain sensitive products, such as active substances in plant protection products (glyphosate, neonicotinoids) and genetically modified organisms (GMOs), the European Commission proposed to revise the transparency rules in these policy areas. The European Parliament is expected to vote during its December plenary session on the report of the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) Committee, and on a mandate to start interinstitutional negotiations.

The Agriculture Committee approved the last batch of proposals to improve EU farm policy so that it better meets farmers’ and consumers’ expectations.
The Agriculture Committee’s amendments to the so-called Financing, Management and Monitoring regulation were approved on Monday by 28 votes in favour to seven against, with two abstentions.
