ECHA’s restriction proposal on microplastics was submitted to the scientific committees on 11 January 2019 for conformity check. If it passes the check, a six-month public consultation on the proposal will start on 20 March 2019. An information session has ben organised by ECHA to clarify the content of the proposal and how to contribute through the public consultation.

The results will feed into an implementation report that the Commission will compile in 2019.
This initiative will examine options and actions for a more coherent policy framework of the different strands of work of EU product policy in their contribution to the circular economy. Product policy has an important role in the transition to the circular economy and is part of the implementation of the Circular Economy Action Plan adopted by the Commission in 2015 (COM(2015)614 final).
