In 2018, the EU agri-food trade reached a value of 254 billion – €138 billion of exports and €116 billion of imports. This means that the EU confirms for yet another year its position as largest global exporter and now second (previously first) importer of agri-food products.

Switzerland was the EU’s 4th largest partner for imports (6% of total extra-EU imports) and the 3rd largest for EU exports (8% of total extra-EU exports) in 2018.
The 25th anniversary of the European Economic Area (EEA) Agreement, in force since 1994, was the main topic of the EEA Consultative Committee meeting that took place on 23 and 24 May. This committee, which represents employers, workers and other civil society players of EEA member states, insisted on the importance of completing the internal market and taking into account its social dimension.
