The rules governing the EU’s internal gas market will in future also apply to gas pipelines to and from third countries. The Romanian Presidency of the Council reached a provisional agreement with the European Parliament on an amendment to the so-called gas directive. The agreement will now be submitted to the member states’ representatives in the Council for endorsement.
New rules for improving the functioning of the EU gas market and strengthening solidarity between Member States have been provisionally agreed by negotiators from the European Parliament, the Council and the European Commission.

The EIB financing will support Fingrid’s investment programme, which aims to rehabilitate and develop the electricity transmission network that stretches throughout all of Finland. The addition of a new line to the north-south interconnector will enable new wind energy – planned in the north of the country – to reach load centres in the south. Refurbishment of lines and substations will replace infrastructure at the end of its lifetime with more efficient and modernised equipment, adapted to current consumption volumes.
INEA has received 69 project proposals by the deadline of 5 February for the H2020 Energy call on Energy Systems and Smart Cities and Communities. They have requested €501.3 million, while the available EU funding is €183.6 million.
