Press Release: Civil society call for an inclusive and coherent long term sustainable post-2020 strategy

The Europe 2020 Strategy is soon coming to an end at a time when Europe is facing major challenges. Civil society should provide contribution to the shaping of the new post-2020 participatory long term strategy, as well as to its governance and implementation, was the event’s message. Key priority for the future strategy should be to respond more effectively to rising inequality, to create trust and confidence across Europe and to ensure a fair transition for all.

Press release: 2018 EU budget adopted

On 30 November 2017, the Council and the European Parliament separately approved the deal reached on 18 November 2017 in the conciliation committee on the 2018 budget. The EU budget for 2018 is therefore adopted. Full article…

Study: Evaluation in the European Commission – Rolling Check-List and State of Play

This paper aims to provide an overview of planned and ongoing evaluations of EU legislation and spending programmes carried out by each European Commission directorate-general (DG). The general overview and state of play on the public availability of evaluations is completed by a rolling check-list comprising on-going and planned evaluations on the basis of information disclosed by the Commission in various sources (DGs’ management plans and annual activity reports, the Single Evaluation Plans for 2016 and 2017, roadmaps published since July 2015) and the information available in individual DGs. The annexes to this paper contain an overview of, and links to, the DGs’ management plans for 2017 (Annex I); and a list of, and direct links to, the evaluations published between 2015 and 20 October 2017 in various sources (Annexes II and III). Finally, Annex IV covers the Commission staff working documents related to evaluation published on EUR-Lex and in the Register of Commission Documents up to October 2017.

Press Release: Environmental reporting – Estonian presidency strikes a deal with the European Parliament

On 22 November, the Estonian presidency reached a provisional deal with European Parliament representatives on the adoption of a decision repealing and amending outdated EU environmental legislation and providing legal clarity on the reporting obligations related to environmental matters. Given the references in this decision to the Waste package, it has been decided to postpone the plenary vote in the European Parliament until an agreement on the new waste legislation is reached. The entry into force will therefore occur at the same time, thereby ensuring legal consistency. Full article…
