Suren Thiru, chief economist for British Chambers ofCommerce (BCC), London, will give a briefing on what’s happening to Britain’s international trade. BCC’s Quarterly International Trade Survey is the longestcontinuous industry data set on Britain’s trade and is highly respected by forecasters. Suren will provide insights from the most recent quarter,published just a few days before and discuss where UK trade is heading.

The Council, in an EU27 format, was informed by the EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier about the state of play on Brexit, as intensified negotiations with the UK negotiators take place to try to reach an agreement ahead of the European Council (Article 50) on 17 October 2019.

As the Guardian of the Treaties, the European Commission has today sent a letter of formal notice to the United Kingdom for breaching its EU Treaty obligations by not suggesting a candidate for the post of EU Commissioner. The UK authorities have until Friday 22 November at the latest to provide their views. This short time period is justified by the fact that the next Commission must enter into office as soon as possible.
